There are a number of rights and obligations that have to be observed by the Police. These are some of the more important rights that you have:-

A right to remain silent

A right to free legal advice throughout the period of your detention

A right to communicate privately with your solicitor

A right to inform someone of your whereabouts

If you are a youth, the police also have a duty to contact the person responsible for your welfare

A right to have your detention authorised and reviewed

A right of information for the reason for your arrest

There are other rights, these will be explained to clients by one of our solicitors or police station representatives.
